The abbreviation of minimal residual disease (MRD) refers to the presence of very few tumor cells or tiny lesions in the patient's body after anti-cancer treatment. These cells or lesions cannot be detected by morphological or imaging methods and require the use of more sensitive methods.

MRD is the direct cause of tumor recurrence.

In hematological tumors, especially leukemia (especially acute leukemia), MRD is one of the commonly used clinical monitoring indicators.
